Caro Makes

Caro Makes is a moniker and home for my textile and illustration endeavors. Lately I am interested in celebrating Korean folk art and culture through my art using bold, bright colors. Fun homages to my favorite foods and books sneak in there too ☺

My work has been featured by Modern Macrame, Girls' Night In, and Punch Needle World. I was also one of 60 AAPI artists in the original Create to Stop Hate auction series to support Stop AAPI Hate.

Cosmos Book Club

The Cosmos Book Club is a bimonthly gathering of self-identifying women of Asian descent to read, discuss, and support Asian diaspora literature by women authors. Sign up for the mailing list to hear about future events!

I founded this community in 2018 and oversaw 14 in-person events over two years. During my leadership I had the honor of inviting authors such as Lisa Ko, Crystal Hana Kim, and Jia Tolentino to convene and discuss their works with us. Read more about the book club's history and how you can start your own.

This project has been featured in The New York Times and The Guardian.

Modern Doing

In 2020, I created an interview series that explores how people define their path and find meaning through work.

The interviews offer an inquisitive, non-dogmatic perspective to the often heavy and lonely burden of creating a more purposeful, integrated life. I explore each subject's life path, their definition of success, what work means, and how they balance work with leisure and other responsibilities.

This project has been mentioned in Creative Mornings' Weekly Highlights.
