7 week creativity writers’ group
Ouroboros
For artists who want to write about their creative practice & inner life
SPRING DATES: APRIL 15-MAY 31
DEADLINE TO APPLY: SUNDAY APRIL 5, 11:59 PM EDT
What is Ouroboros?
Creative lives are maps of our inner lives. Writing is the alchemy that starts to clarify this map, so that we can create the art we want to make while integrating the lessons learned through the process.
If you create art in any medium and want to write about your practice, interweaving experiences from your inner life to craft a holistic picture of yourself, I invite you to join OUROBOROS, my creativity writers' group starting this spring.
Why is this writing group called Ouroboros? Read more about this here!
What will we do in Ouroboros?
Writing is a solitary act, but it doesn't need to be done in a silo. I will guide us through the following topics for the spring season:
Discovering what we want to write
How to begin
How often to write and release our work
We will also have opportunities to give feedback on each others' drafts through live calls (submitted one week in advance, so that everyone has time to read).
DETAILS:
This small group container will run for seven weeks, from April 15 to May 31.
The group will receive a mix of asynchronous lessons and discussion hosted on Notion with a few live writing feedback sessions/workshops on Zoom.
Pricing will be $225 for the first season. You can apply for need based scholarship pricing at $150, or offer any artist trades in the application form.
Live call scheduling will be determined by a group majority vote.
Who is Ouroboros for?
You are a self-identifying “creative person” who wants to write about creative practice. You want to write about your artwork, your creative process, and your inner life as you go through the cycles of creating and releasing art into the world.
You have tried self-publishing your writing, whether online (blog, Substack, Tumblr, Instagram, etc) or offline (zines, books, anthologies).
You crave a private community for feedback and exploration of ideas.
You want to exchange readings, resources, and be in deeper conversation about creativity beyond your own specific field.
You are looking for balance in how to write and share regularly without burdening yourself or taking away from other parts of your creative practice.
You’re curious to explore your personal interests and stories and how to tie it to your creative practice. You want to write and share about various facets of yourself without alienating your readers or “being off brand.”
You do not need to be a full-time artist or have any number of readers or subscribers.
You do not need to attend every live call. Much of the facilitation and lessons will be hosted asynchronously via Notion.
Who is Ouroboros not for?
Please do not apply if you use generative AI for your writing or art. Ouroboros is a no gen AI zone.
Please do not apply if you do not have interest in being part of a writing community. Be open and willing to engage in dialogue, share resources, and read each other’s work. This will consist of around 2 hours a week outside of your own writing.
Please do not apply if you are only looking to write copy to sell your artwork. This group is about encouraging personal writing practice as part of the creative process. Selling our art is a happy byproduct when we write about art and invite others in.
Who is the facilitator?
I’m Carolyn, an artist and writer based in Brooklyn, NY. I write the bestselling Substack publication SEE YOU, where I have consistently published my writing on creative practice for over six years. Head over here or explore the rest of my website to discover about me and my work.
